Buongiorno famiglie!
Assignments are underway here in Sorrento Italy. Photography diligently worked on their third assignment, producing two different panorama of images portraying this beautiful city. Movement is currently the theme of their pictures while traveling, as a fourth assignment requires 100 pictures in motion. Classical civilization gathered in groups for book club. They discussed the Startens battle of Thermopylae as depicted in the novel “Gates of Fire” by Steven Pressfield. The civilization students also participated in a lecture on Julius Caesar as the English students distributed roles for the Julius Caesar performance in Florence later this month. English is currently working on poetry, a novel, and Shakespeare at the same time. Today they organized characters for every student in the performance of Shakespeare. The responsibilities of costume designers and directors were designated and specific scenes were distributed to individuals for translation in to modern day English. The second half of class we dedicated to “Lives of the Saints” seminars. This project is worth a large part of their mark and they are all working hard. The Italian girls focused their time on grammar and their project that’s due very soon. These four girls are learning quickly from Ms. Cescolini as they speak and understand much more than the other classes on this exciting trip.
Our forty three students and six wonderful teachers and supervisors visited the gorgeous, quant village constructed in the side of the mountain called Positano and the black sand beach on the Amalfi Coast. A bus ride through the wind roads of Positano allowed for the students to see the culture of the town with small shops built in the mountain and pastel coloured houses with balconies covered in an abundance for flowers. The street leading down to the black sand beach was covered with shops of fine jewelry, beach sandals, and hand paintings of the view of Positano from the base of the mountain.
The sun that stood above all the students glistened off the water and their Canadian white skin. Sun screen was applied frequently! The black sand of the Amalfi Coast was tiny black pebbles scattered with green and clear sea glass. The sand sparkled. Sun radiated off this sand and turned the beautiful beach into painful floor of coals. Our feet were on fire as the ran to the salty waters that glisten before us. The refreshing water was the perfect escape from the hot sand on our feet and sun on our skin.
A wonderful day in Positano!
