Buongiorno!
Today was our last day to tour and experience Roma :(! Activities involved last minute shopping, final sightseeing, and exciting lectures in all of the classes.
Classical Civilization students had class in the luxurious lobby and learnt about Mount Olympus, the beginning of the Olympic Games and how it unified Greece. They also introduced a new topic, Greek Mythology, and studied how Uranus and Gaia created the gods.
English students started class off today with a walking tour to visit two famous churches around Rome, Basilica Di Santa Maria and Saint Peter’s in Vincoli Basilica. Located in these churches are famous works by Michelangelo, his Moses and his The Risen Christ sculptures. Students had studied these works in their assigned novel, The Agony and the Ecstasy, and therefore could really appreciate them. The class then participated in an assignment to find other churches around Rome, take pictures of them, and to research their significance. Later on in the afternoon, they finished reading Julius Caesar, back at the hotel.
Photography students joined the English class’ excursion to the churches. Here, they were able to capture pictures for their assignments, motion blur, motion freeze as well as one requiring them to capture pictures of religious symbols. The architecture of the classical churches created unique and dynamic photos.
The Italian students had an exciting class because they ventured to the high school and bar where an Italian TV show, I Cesaroni, they’ve been watching was filmed. They met the owners of the bar who know the cast and crew as well as a famous soccer player that visits the bar often. Later on, these students headed back to the hotel to study grammar for their upcoming test tomorrow.
When class was over for the afternoon, students studying English and Photography were already in a primary location near the Pantheon, so they split up into groups to enjoy their afternoon dining and shopping along Via del Corso, a major street in Rome. Classical Civilization and Italian students spent the afternoon relaxing, doing homework, and having a nice lunch nearby the hotel. Later the entire group met up in the lobby before heading into dinner for a delicious three course meal with an exciting surprise visit from Georgia Hardy herself! Later on, the group got on the bus to re-visit the beautiful Fontana di Trevi and Spanish steps by night where musicians played all around and lights illuminated the monuments. Students hung out there to enjoy the culture and amazing atmosphere for their last night in Roma!
Ciao!
