It’s hard to believe we have only been here for nine days! We have only stayed in one city but we still have seen so much. Today we left our first hotel in Sorrento and began our long journey to Roma! After our long bus ride filled with seeing the beautiful Italian country-side, and a lot of sleep, we arrived at our new hotel in the heart of Rome. Through our travels in the streets we saw beautiful Piazza’s, large crowds in many stores, and even the colossal Colosseum. When we dropped off our bags in the hotel we went on a walk of the city and visited an interesting church. In the church, all of the rooms were decorated with actual human bones. The rooms were adorned with skulls, spines and other bones. Everything from the furniture of the room, to the walls and even the lamps! This interesting form of art was done by the Capuchin monks and that is what they would do with their brothers that passed away. After this interesting tour we returned to our hotel and many of us took this opportunity for visiting a local Laundromat to clean our clothes. In the time between returning from the walk and dinner, we explored the hotel and it gave many of us time to catch up on a few assignments. For dinner we had a delicious three course meal, then had a few hours of free time before we had to be back in our rooms for curfew. For those of us who stayed at the hotel during this period of free time, we were able to access the Wifi provided for us by the hotel and we could contact friends and family back home via Skype, facebook or email. Others in our group took to the streets of Rome and went to see the sights and got a feel for the city. At 11:00 we were all in our rooms and turning in for the night so as to be prepared for our classes which are resuming Monday.
