Monday, July 11 - Rome, Day 1

Our first full day in Rome! The hotel is lovely and the breakfast was delicious. We had a lot of fun today, getting settled in our new hotel and making our way around Roma!

The Photography students had their depth of field presentations today; they also had time to research their favourite photographers, and the rules of composition. They will be looking forward to presenting their Naples pictures tomorrow and taking pictures at the Coliseum and at the Forum.

The Classical Civilization students took a field trip to St. Peter’s Square today via the metro, and saw Castle del St. Angello. Then they had a lecture on some of the funnier emperors of Rome, such as Nero, Calligula, Claudius and Tiberius.

The Italian students had a grammar test today and they are starting a new unit, on conversations. They went to the Laundromat and had some conversations with some of the locals, and are going to be going on some more outings, this week, to practise talking to more of the Italians, here in Rome.

The English students started reading Julius Caesar and got up to Act 3, right after Caesar has died and right before Brutus and Mark Anthony’s contrasting speeches. Tomorrow, there will be a test on Agony and the Ecstasy, for the grade 11 and 12s. Good Luck! Also, later in the week, we will begin translating our scenes and continue memorizing our lines for our big performance in Florence!

This afternoon, we had a walking tour of Rome. We saw many sights, including the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon. Afterwards, many of us went shopping and explored Rome. We returned to the hotel and had a wonderful dinner, of pasta, chicken and salad. Tonight, most of the kids chose to stay in and chill around the hotel, finishing homework assignments and studying. Either way, everyone had a great time, and a great first day in Roma!
